LEADERSHIP
AND SERVICE
As a sitting member of City Council, experienced lawyer and longtime civic volunteer, Susan brings current Cherry Hills Village leadership experience, relevant professional judgment and a practical record of working on the issues our community faces now.
She is a seasoned advocate, creative and collaborative leader, community volunteer and proud mother and wife. She believes in the power of active listening in order to understand and pursue objectives benefiting the residents of Cherry Hills Village.

ROOTS, EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Susan grew up in Greenhills Ohio, a community surrounded by a forest, designed to combine urban amenities with rural green spaces and public parks, much like Cherry Hills Village.
Susan graduated from Denison University with a degree in International Relations. She received a law degree from Vanderbilt University and practiced law for 17 years in Dallas and Houston Texas, first at a large law firm and then as in-house counsel, rising to a general counsel role with GE Capital. She specialized in real estate, banking, finance, distressed assets and corporate operations, including HR, IT and process management functions. She spent her career evaluating complex financial transactions.
HOME, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY SERVICE
Susan and her husband, Charlie Maguire, who grew up in Cherry Hills Village, moved to Cherry Hills in 2000 with their 4 children. After moving to Cherry Hills, she continued to work in executive management roles for several years before stepping back to spend time volunteering at her children’s schools in the sports programs, on school boards and fundraising.
Susan got involved in public service in 2014 when she was asked to join the Utility LIne Undergrounding Study Committee for the VIllage. Subsequently, she was asked to be the Executive Director of Cherry Hills Land Preserve, a conservation and nature oriented non-profit, and helped build its relationship with Cherry Hills Village. She initiated CHLP programming in Cherry Hills Village parks, including the first Kids in the Creek at Woody Hollow Park and Star Gazing at Quincy Farm.

CITY COUNCIL AND CURRENT SERVICE
Susan ran successfully for City Council in District 4 in 2022, winning with 67% of the vote city wide. She has since been actively involved in issues facing the city, including the fight to protect local control of zoning and land use, infrastructure management including cell phone coverage and traffic management, management and protection of public spaces and fiscal governance. She has campaigned successfully for various City charter amendments in the last 4 years.
Susan represents Cherry Hills Village on the Arapahoe County Transportation Forum, recommending multi-modal transportation projects for funding to the Denver Regional Council of Governments. Susan is the Council Liaison to the Community Development Department of the City which is responsible for coordinating land development and land use for the CIty and ensuring development is consistent with the City’s Master Plan. Susan sits as the Council Alternate Member on the Board of Adjustments and Appeals which hears appeals on zoning and building code decisions as well as variances to the zoning ordinance.
Susan is an adequate golfer, an inadequate piano player, and an enthusiastic gardener and traveler. She loves to bake and believes in the power of pastries to bring people together.
